Huawei Partners With Imperial College On ‘Data Lab’
IT server and storage giant Huawei has announced a new research and development partnership with leading UK science university Imperial College. Under the terms of the deal, the pair will set up a special co-branded ‘Data Science Innovation Laboratory’, whereby researchers from both organisations will collaborate on cutting-edge data science investigations.
The aim: develop new applications in fields like energy, healthcare and smart cities, as well as push further ahead with basic ‘big data’ research.
Huawei is providing state-of-the-art infrastructure to help get the facility up and running, such as next-generation cloud computing technology. The corporation is also financially underwriting the venture, in the form of both operational expenses but also new dedicated research and innovation funds.
“By bringing its experts together with out engineers we believe we can create new products and services which will harness the huge potential of big data,” a Huawei spokesperson said.
A spokesperson for Imperial added that Huawei’s backing of the Lab will empower some of the world’s best big data exploration work, which could soon lead to, “the next generation of big data technologies for the benefit of our society and economy”.
